Central Illinois’ largest haunted house, The Scream Zombie Adventure, opens on Friday, October 11, on West Eldorado with a completely new look. The new opening date is one week later than planned due to production delays.
“This year we tore the maze down to the studs and completely reconfigured and redecorated. The new scenes include references to current pop culture and are better than ever,” states Decatur Celebration Producer/Director, Lori Sturgill.
One of the most significant changes to the haunted house is a new emphasis on zombies. In fact, zombies have taken over and now inhabit the majority of the house including an intricately designed zombie town. The house has also expanded to offer 29 horrifying scenes including the popular double vortex tunnels, grave crawl, and squeeze wall.
“When it comes to scares, there’s something for everyone from zombies roaming the streets of zombie town, to clowns, to a new scene based on the movie, ‘Momma’, and more,” states Production Director, Gary Moore.
Once again, The Scream offers two haunted events in one location – a haunted house and a haunted warehouse tour. The Haunted Warehouse Tour guides patrons through abandoned portions of the warehouse that are rumored to be haunted. Similar to the TV show, “Ghost Adventures,” this flashlight tour is a paranormal experience where a small group of explorers visits the creepy remains of a once buzzing cafeteria, kitchen, and locker room of the old Mueller warehouse.
The Scream Zombie Adventure is open October 11-13, 18-20, 25-27, 30-31, and November 1-2. Tickets start at $10 with cash and credit accepted. This haunted house is a partnership between Decatur Celebration and The Creatures of the Night.
